Bringing the Flavor
The goal to create a fun and approachable Indian restaurant was achieved with colorful and modern inspiration from Indian culture. There were many design challenges to consider when working on a mixed-use building including how to keep intense spice odors and noise from permeating into residential dwellings, and how to mitigate the impact of traffic from deliveries and trash pick-up. The coordination between architecture and engineering disciplines was key to finding creative solutions to the technical and operational challenges of the building.
Open ceilings allow natural light to flood the space, highlighting the rich colors of Tandur's branding. The special clay ovens encased in mosaic can reach 900 degrees, allowing customers to watch as cooks roast proteins and bake naan!
